It has an amazing texture and a medium high heat upwards from 250,000 scovilles. When you chug on it, at first all you get is the flavours of the fruity ingredients; no real heat. Each flavour gives way to the next, going from fruity to hints of spice and cinnamon. Your tongue plays with the fruity bits and seeds as it explores the texture of this sauce.
Then a few seconds after you have had a chance to enjoy the complex layers of taste, the heat gradually ramps up. It is not a punch in the mouth. At first you feel your ears and eustachian tubes start to sing. The heat then works its way from the back of the mouth and under the tongue, where it starts to work on the salivary glands. Once it has got them good and stimulated, it starts on the rest of the tongue. Meanwhile the heat overall climbs relentlessly, but your mouth still remembers the fresh fruity , lightly spiced taste from first contact. Then you notice that your stomach has started off a small and friendly nuclear reaction.
The whole experience lasts for about 10-20 min depending on how much you glugged back.
It's not hot enough for a hallucinatory heat trip, but I reckon that if repeat mouthfuls of the stuff were timed to the heat build of the previous mouthfuls, interesting experiences may be had.
Apparently it goes well with food as well.
